Koh Phangan is an island off Thailand’s east coast (in the Gulf of Thailand), located near the bigger and better-known resort island of Koh Samui. Koh Phangan is famous for its raucous full-moon parties on the beach. But on the far side of the island, Longtail Resort on the quiet beach of Thong Nai Pan Yai is a world away from the tourist hype—at least in early June, the sweet spot after the hottest months but before the high-season influx of summer vacationers.
