Although Honduras has a violent reputation now, it was fairly quiet and safe when we were there in 2009, at the end of our Central American trip. We traveled in the western and northern parts of the country, where we saw perhaps the best Mayan ruins on the planet, made friends with tropical birds, stayed on a ranch and coffee farm, and snorkeled beautiful coral reefs.
