Austria is one of eight countries that straddle the Alps, Europe’s biggest mountain range (along with France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, and Switzerland). With our visit to Austria’s western state of Tyrol—and a 15-minute train ride across Liechtenstein on the way there—we’ve now seen seven of the eight alpine countries. (Only Monaco remains.) That’s not surprising, given how much we love being in mountains, hiking in mountains, and simply sitting and gazing at mountains.
