After years of working in offices (as editors of magazines, newspapers, and government reports), we decided to do something different with our lives. We want to see more of the world than we can fit into three or four weeks of vacation each year.
We want to travel slowly enough to get a genuine feel for a place—its people and its ecology. We want to try new things: working with animals and plants, teaching and learning languages, helping other people understand and love the natural world, caring for travelers, taking photographs, making music and art, writing stories. Who knows what skills we may discover in ourselves or what places may feel like home?
Most of all, we want to take the time to explore and savor—to take the slow road.
