One of the major sights outside Luang Prabang (our base in northern Laos) is a beautiful series of pearly blue cascades known as the Kuang Si waterfalls. So popular is the place, especially for swimming on a hot day, that even tuk-tuk drivers who can’t speak five words of English will accost tourists on the streets of Luang Prabang with calls of “taxi, waterfall?” The walk through the woods to the waterfalls makes for a gorgeous outing, even on a morning too cool for swimming (like the day we went).
As a bonus, just downstream from the falls is a wildlife rehabilitation center run by Free the Bears, which lovingly cares for endangered Asian bears that have been confiscated from poachers.
