Mascot the pony leads the way

The last rose of autumn

Ballou the big Irish Tinker cart horse

His partner Snoopy

With their manes and leg "feathers" groomed, the Tinkers looked like rock stars in bell bottoms

They were mellow enough to hug . . .

. . . and always hungry at meal times

The Tinkers had a trick: after eating, they had to hand us their bowls to get a treat

Dropping it doesn't count!

There you go!

Diego the Arab stallion (left) was the alpha horse of the herd

Beautiful Nash was the newcomer to the farm

33-year-old Shimmy was the same age as Melissa

Bouquet the thoroughbred

We made lots of trips to the manure pile

Mavros the kitten helped us with our chores

Sweet old Heidi wearing a special halter to keep away the flies

Heidi shared a paddock with Belle, a part thoroughbred

Belle

Pamela, one of the owners of the farm, working with Nash in the ring

Horses hate crinkly plastic, so this helps them get used to it and learn to trust people

Mascot the feisty pony (she bit Melissa on the bottom)

Mascot gets her turn in the ring
